I'm almost at my one year mark. Next month in fact.
And the only thing that keeps me playing right now is the promise that CCP has made to us. That it will get better, that they will make it awesome again. Because it was awesome at one time.
When I first joined, I really enjoyed the game. And after hooking up with ARROW project and therefore IRON I was in on some of the big boy play that was going down around then. And it was AWESOME. 150v150 fleet fights and OMG the fireworks. And you know what? It was laggy, sure. But it was playable laggy. It's much much worse now than it was then. Now the same size engagement causes a node to crash.
But again, I believe in the promise.
I'm sticking around to see what kali brings. And to see if CCP can make good on the promise.
We'll see.
My biggest problem with eve right now is that it's so hard to find a good fight. Many reasons, but I feel the two big ones are killboards and rising costs. Killboards because they make people not want to lose ships. And at the same time encourage killing even pointless noob ships and shuttles. Rising costs hardly needs to be explained. Finite resources, and ever increasing player base. Prices are going to go up. If invention isn't the cure, then something else better be REAL soon. As it is now, it's likely without any changes that Cerbs and Vagas could reach 300m a piece.
(note, I don't fly hacs, for a reason)
In a game like eve where dying can be very expensive, CCP needs to realize that the game only "works" when it's relatively easy to make large sums of money. Now, don't get me wrong, this 1b+ a day **** has to go. What I mean is, for a player with 6+m SP's should be able to make 100m in a 4 hour session without too much trouble. This ONLY encourages people to risk more because replacing it is not such a big deal. The other side of that is that the T2 situation needs some love. (invention, hopefully)
There are things that should cost alot, and be expensive to lose. Outposts, industrial POS's, Industrial ships (barges) Cap ships, etc. But a battle fitted BS or HAC shouldn't cost me a week or more of grinding. The fact that it does simply means I probably won't risk that ship EVER. I throw away interdictors on a regular basis. But I can make enough ratting to replace them in a day or two. It should be noted that I never intend to lose them, it's just that they are god damn death traps. Sure an inty can run into a hostile gang and nearly always survive. (I think I lost one so far) But a dictor? HAHAHAHA Huge sig radious and no hit points. A single volley of torps usually does the job. Or god forbid you run into a vagabond. Pew pew Boom, pew pew, boom. ****!
It's interesting to note that economicly, PVPers are the poorest bunch of people in eve. Thats not exactly a condusive situation for more pvp to happen. I open escrow and daydream about a faction fitted , faction BS. But I'll probably not ever own one. I've never in my 1 year in eve had more than 300m in my wallet. Yes, I have many assets. Mostly just rat loot, but many ships and t2/named setups also. But everytime I push to make some money, something happens and I end up having to spend most of the money I made. Then the cycle repeats. And yes, I could spend more time making money and less time risking my ships, but... where is the fun in that? I realise some people enjoy the grind. Cool. But I don't. It's a means to an end and right now, that end keeps moving farther and farther away. At some point, it's going to be over the horizon.
Anyway, just my .02 isk.
I believe in the promise. ___________________________________________ The deeper you stick it in your vein, the deeper the thoughts there's no more pain. ___________________________________________
